With more than 24 years in risk and compliance, Chris Lucas brings to Spinnaker a great depth of knowledge across risk management and compliance operations. He has a track record of establishing risk and compliance systems that meet ever-evolving regulator expectations, and has a long history of working with banks and financial technology firms to distill complex risks down to sensible actions. Chris has a passion for helping others be their best and takes great pride in helping clients establish high-functioning risk and compliance systems.
Before joining Spinnaker, Chris managed consumer compliance programs for large regional banks and did so during a time where regulatory expectations were constantly evolving. This included managing large teams of risk and compliance professionals, overseeing compliance management systems, and leading the reporting of firmwide risk metrics including frequent presentations to the board of directors. Chris also has significant experience establishing compliance systems for financial technology organizations.
Chris is a licensed attorney, regulatory compliance expert, and risk management specialist often recognized for his ability to create practical solutions to complex risk within the financial industry. He has a depth of experience in areas such as consumer compliance, compliance management system design, examination management, fair lending and CRA, complaint management, compliance automation, UDAAP, risk assessments, policy and procedure design, enterprise risk management, corporate governance, control testing, and issue management. In addition to helping banks and financial technology companies in these areas, Chris is a frequent speaker on these topics including at large national conferences.
Chris is a proud seventh generation Alabamian and a product of a small southern town. Having been raised by a single mom, Chris understands the importance of hard work and dreaming big – two values that are at his core. Chris has a Juris Doctorate from The Birmingham School of Law and a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Alabama. He has completed executive leadership studies at both the University of Texas, and the ISEE Business School in Spain. He is a past board member of the Texas Mezzanine Fund, and past board chair of the Alabama Asset Building Coalition and the Traveler’s Aid Society of Greater Birmingham. Chris is married to the former Rebecca Petrich and they are the parents of two teenage boys. They reside in Birmingham. When not at work, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and following his alma mater in football – the Alabama Crimson Tide.
